About us
The Property:
Arimia is a 135 acre property owned by Ann Spencer and Malcolm Washbourne. Our passion for wine and love of the north end of the Margaret River wine region led us to purchase part of a partially cleared sheep and cattle grazing property in 1997.
The property is unique and stunningly beautiful. Overlooking the Indian Ocean with views to the local surf spot at Moses Rock, our north-western and northern boundaries border the Cape Naturalist National Park and the Quininup Creek meanders across the property through the northern most stand of majestic Karri trees in the district on its way to meet the ocean following its cascade over the Quininup Falls.
Arimia Margaret River:
A labour of love created Arimia Margaret River. With the hard work and dedication of our vineyard Manager, Graham Royer and his wife Susan, we developed our water resources, planted cuttings in the nursery, laid out the initial 15 acre vineyard, fenced it to keep out the kangaroos, trained the vines, watched, watered and nurtured the vines and finally in 2004, harvested our first commercial crop. Over the last four years we've produced some outstanding medal winning wines, doubled the acreage under vine and will open our new cellar door in time for the 2008 Christmas holiday season.
The Arimia Story:
Arimia is a combination of the names of Malcolm and Ann's two daughters Mia and Ariann and the Arimia story is their story. As children the girls like nothing better than to take off around the property with their dogs Bella and Jesse - a mother and daughter pair of Australian Shepherds - on their heels.
What they did around the property? They explored the chain of small lakes - their fairy ponds - surrounded by Tea Trees in the north-west corner of the property, chased and caught tiny frogs in the ponds and creek, hunted for 'fairies' in the Karri forest and would make mud pies on the banks of the creek. Now older Mia (16) AND Ariann (12) are both keen surfers so the rocky shore(Rockpool) and now surfing our beach (Waverider White) feature in our labels. Hence the story of Arimia which appears on our labels.
'Playing here are smiling dogs, and pickled fairies chasing frogs, skipping 'round enchanted ponds as mud larks sing their joyful songs where rock pool gardens kiss the caves and dreams are ridden like the waves - the story of Arimia'.
The labels tell the Arimia story in pictures. Inspired by Mia's drawings, all or parts of the Arimia story appear on each of our labels.
Remember the Arimia story when you try our Smiling Dogs Shiraz, Mudlarks Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Pickled Fairies Verdelho,Rockpool Red Cabernet Merlot and Wave Rider Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. .
